Aid me or hinder me?

Why is there such  a huge outcry for false rape reports but not for other crimes that may involve false reports; crimes such as robbery, car theft, assault,  harassment, ect. 
Is it because it is a crime that is predominately committed by men, one that predominately affect women?
Is it because there is this belief in our society that women are irrational, liars, vindictive, prone to fits of hysteria, and out to get men.

The fact is that false reports of rape are extremely rare and what tends to happen more is that victims with legit claims are disregarded. Most rapes are never reported and very few of the rapes that are reported end up with a conviction.

Even some self proclaimed feminists disregard rape claims or victim blame. Some state that their friend is likely making it up due to shame or regret. 

This all makes reporting rape frightening. If you can’t even get your friends to believe you, how will you convince society and the courts?
